The desertification risk map announced in the Global Climate Change Research Commission of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey revealed that half of the country is under the threat of desertification. Hikmet Öztürk, Deputy General Manager of TEMA Foundation, announced striking data.

Sharing the data of the desertification risk map published by the General Directorate of Combating Desertification and Erosion, Öztürk stated that desertification is one of the most important problems of Turkey: “29 percent of the regions with desertification risk in Turkey are very severe and 23 percent are moderately severe. the degree to which it is likely to become severe. We see that Turkey is at great risk.”

In the commission, the trees killed due to the forests under mining siege were also brought up. It was reported that in 2015, 2016 and 2017, a total of 17,900 mining permits were issued for the areas covering the forest area, and the forest area of ​​146 thousand hectares lost its status.
