Istanbul Technical University, Faculty of Mines, Department of Geology, Professor. Dr. Naci Görür said that the areas where the Kanal Istanbul Project, which many sectors, especially scientists, passed through, could trigger an earthquake. Görer, with the words “I am rebelling as a scientist,” said, “Why don’t you prepare Istanbul for an earthquake and invest in the safety of people’s lives?” he asked.
Görer said, “When there is an earthquake, there may be big landslides on the route of Kanal Istanbul. You are creating an island in Istanbul. If a big earthquake happens, you cannot interfere with the island. In a city waiting for an earthquake, the population should not be increased,” he said.
Prof. Dr. Görür, who was a guest of the “Alarm Clock with İsmail Küçükkaya” program on Fox TV, evaluated the controversial Kanal Istanbul project.
Saying, “No one can decide the future of this country with their own opinion and team,” Görür said, “Instead of undertaking such a risky project… Istanbul is waiting for an earthquake, hundreds of thousands of people are not safe. Why don’t you prepare Istanbul for an earthquake and invest in people’s safety?” he asked.
Görer said:
“He cannot decide the future of this country with his own team. My children and grandchildren will live here. Istanbul is waiting for an earthquake. Hundreds of thousands of people have no security of life. I was cut off from shouting. Not just me, all scientists! Why don’t you prepare Istanbul for an earthquake and invest in the safety of these people? Why are you turning to this risky and low-yielding project in the toughest economic conditions of this country? As a scientist, I rebel.“……
