The “Water and Conscience Watch”, which continues against the desired gold mining in Kazdağı, is in its first year. We talked about this year with the life advocates who have been on guard for a year in the tents on Kirazlı Balaban Hill and the coordination members who started the watch.

Reactions that started after the forest massacre in Kirazlı Village Balaban Tepe, near Atikhisar Dam, which supplies the drinking water of Çanakkale, by the Canadian-owned gold mining company Alamos Gold, initiated the “Water and Conscience Watch” in the region a year ago. According to the figures of the forest engineers’ chamber, approximately 350 thousand trees were killed and an ecosystem inhabited by hundreds of thousands of creatures was destroyed. The images of the massacre revealed by the drone shots were met with reactions all over the country, especially in Çanakkale. Following the press statement made by Çanakkale Municipality, city council and life advocates at the site of the massacre, “Water and Conscience Watch” was launched on 26 July 2019 to stop the nature slaughter of gold miners.
